At St. Cecilia, we take great pride in our vibrant athletic programs that foster teamwork, character development, and a lifelong love for sports. Our student-athletes are encouraged to live and play as followers of Christ both on and off the playing field. 

Our athletic programs are designed to provide students with a well-rounded experience that goes beyond the score. We believe in the power of sports to teach valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. Many of our teams boast championship honors, but the Bluejays are not just about winning; they are about embodying the spirit of sportsmanship and resilience, always giving their best effort.

For a student to participate in any athletic programs sponsored by St. Cecilia School, parents/guardians must:

  • Read and agree to adhere to the rules and regulations outlined in the Athletic Handbook.

COMPLETE Agreement

  • Submit a completed physical form. Physicals are good for one calendar year only, and the form must be completed annually.

Our school's volleyball program, catering to students in grades 5-8 during the fall season, is a dynamic and successful part of our athletic tradition. Our young athletes have consistently displayed their skills and teamwork on the court, securing several championships in recent years. The list of accolades includes victories in various divisions, such as the 5th, 6th, and 7th grades in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. It's a testament to the commitment and talent of our athletes and coaches. Beyond the middle school level, some of our volleyball alumni have gone on to achieve remarkable success in their own right. Notably, Bluejay AC Froehlich garnered acclaim as the 2021 and 2022 Louisiana Division II Player of the Year and was named the 2022 Gatorade Player of the Year. Others, like Paige Guidry, pursued volleyball at the University of Louisiana, and Mollie Webre continued her volleyball journey at Nicholls. Our volleyball program is a thriving hub for developing skills and fostering a love for the sport, showcasing the potential for our students to excel and shine both on and off the court.

Our latest victory was our 7/8th grade team's 2023 championship win! Moreover, we take immense pride in the fact that many of our football alumni have gone on to become State Champions at local high schools and have even pursued college football careers. Our football program is a testament to the enduring legacy of sportsmanship and athletic prowess instilled within our students.

Our cross-country program, open to students in grades 5-8 and taking place in the fall, is a testament to our school's commitment to athletic excellence and sportsmanship. Our dedicated athletes have consistently proven their prowess, securing several championships in recent years. In 2019, our boys' team secured victory, followed by back-to-back wins in 2021 and 2022. The pinnacle of their success was achieved in 2021 when our boys' team made history by becoming State Champions, marking our first-ever state championship in cross country. With approximately 10 meets each year, our athletes are consistently challenged and continue to excel. Beyond the track, our team participates in a special fundraiser meet, the Middle School Run for a Cure, which benefits local cancer patients, highlighting our commitment to community involvement. It's no surprise that our program has also produced multiple state champions at local high schools, demonstrating the enduring impact of our cross-country program on the athletic achievements of our students.

Among our esteemed alumni is AC Froehlich, a 2015-2019 Bluejay graduate, who achieved remarkable recognition by earning the titles of All-State and All-District from 2021 to 2023. Furthermore, our girls' basketball teams have consistently demonstrated their prowess and dedication, bringing home multiple championships, including 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade titles in 2021 and a remarkable sweep in 2022. These achievements reflect the commitment and talent fostered within our girls' basketball program, making it a source of great pride and accomplishment within our school community.

Our boys' basketball program, designed for students in grades 5-8, takes center stage as a winter sport that cultivates not only athletic prowess but also a spirit of teamwork and determination. Our alumni continue to shine in the world of basketball, and one notable figure is Eric Mouton. Eric's journey through our program served as the foundation for a lifelong love of the game, propelling him to play at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (USL) and subsequently pursue a coaching career at institutions like Nichols, VC, USL, OC, and STM. Today, he proudly holds the positions of Athletic Director and Head Coach at Ascension Episcopal. Eric's impressive legacy includes a state championship with STM and a Sunbelt Conference championship as a starting point guard, with a standout moment when he helped orchestrate an astounding upset over #4 Oklahoma as part of the #13 seed USL team. Eric's journey is a testament to the opportunities and excellence our basketball program instills in our young athletes, making it an integral part of our school's athletic tradition.

Our school's baseball program is a source of great pride and achievement for students in grades 5-8 during the spring season. With a rich history of success, our program has seen remarkable talent grace our fields. Notably, one of our former players, Hayden Cantrelle, truly exemplifies the excellence of our baseball program. During his time here, Hayden was named the Class IV State MVP and received the prestigious honor of being a three-time All-State player. His outstanding skills and dedication to the sport paved the way for an extraordinary journey in the world of baseball. In 2017, he was drafted by the New York Yankees, showcasing his exceptional abilities on a national stage. Subsequently, he earned spots on the 2019 Cape Cod All-Stars and the Sunbelt All-Conference, further solidifying his status as a standout player. In 2020, Hayden Cantrelle was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers and continues to make waves in the baseball world. Currently, he is making his mark as a professional baseball player, competing at the AA level for the San Francisco Giants. His incredible journey from our school's baseball program to the professional leagues is a testament to the talent and dedication fostered within our school's baseball community.
